Communications
Our Communications section strives to keep members regularly informed about issues important to members through our various publications and network of elected delegates and Occupational Health and Safety Representatives.
In addition, the Communications Section liaises closely with various media to ensure that our members maintain a strong public voice on issues important to them and their profession.
Through mediums such as our monthly publication, The Police Association Journal, regular newsletters and our website, members can get the latest information about issues and find out more about the activities of fellow members.
The journal has been the principle organ of communication with our membership since it was first published in July 1918. Each new issue is immediately uploaded to our website, with back issues electronically archived back to January 2005. Hard copies of back issues are available in the Association library.

INSIDE FEBRUARY'S ISSUE
Black Saturday - emerging from the ashes The temperature has soared into the mid-40s. A hot, dry wind is blowing through the blackened hills around Kinglake. Very few people are out and about in the township or the village. The anniversary of the devastating Black Saturday bushfires is looming.
Inside the Homicide Squad Murder holds a fascination for the public like no other crime. Often a perverse celebrity status is attached to the murder victim and the suspect. The investigations are carried out under the media spotlight. At court the detectives face enormous scrutiny; even the minutest aspect of their investigation is dissected and examined. This is the world of the Homicide Squad detectives.
To live and breathe politics Laurie Oakes has probably lost count of the number of times he has heard competing politicians use law and order as a political football. The veteran political reporter knows, as does the informed Australian elector, that pollies employ the age-old tactic to win votes – and that disgusts him.
Memories of Mick Miller Last year The Police Association Journal brought you the fascinating story of S. I. ‘Mick’ Miller, the former Chief Commissioner and undoubtedly the state’s most respected police officer – past or present.
