Association Secretary not to renew contract

As was reported in the Herald Sun today, Secretary Paul Mullett has not sought to stay on in his position beyond the March 2009 expiry of his current contract with The Police Association.

At the conclusion of the last EB negotiations and prior to the OPI hearings, Paul foreshadowed to key Police Association personnel he wouldn’t be seeking an extension to the current contract.

In an attempt to retain Paul, in a meeting of The Police Association executive on the January 30 2008, members of the executive unanimously offered to extend the secretary’s contract past its expiry date of March 2009.

As a result of Paul declining their offer, the executive will commence a process of appointing a successor.

Paul has provided unfailing support to all members of The Police Association over the last 20 years in his roles on the executive, as assistant secretary and as secretary. All members have benefited from Paul’s passionate representation to improve salaries and working conditions. Paul’s commitment to The Police Association will continue for the duration of his current contract.
