Senior Sergeants say no to Mobility Model

Yesterday, senior sergeants within division 3 of regions 1 and 4 met with The Police Association to discuss the Force’s intention to introduce a Mobility Model.

Under the model, senior sergeants will be rotated arbitrarily to accommodate “the best interests of the Force”, with little consideration for the best interests of senior sergeants, their families or the stability of their stations.

The Police Association is vehemently opposed to the proposed Mobility Model and the Force’s incorrect assertion that this forms part of the recent EB agreement. It does not.

To prevent the introduction of this model, senior sergeants in attendance at yesterday’s meeting passed the following motions unanimously:

1. That the Force provide adequate reasons to justify the proposed rotation of senior sergeants and justify its position having regard to the Police Regulation Act.

2. That in the absence of justifiable reasons and the demonstrated lawful capacity of the Chief Commissioner to rotate senior sergeants, The Police Association will use all its available resources to prevent the rotation of senior sergeants.

3. That if the Force progresses the rotation of senior sergeants, a future meeting, to be attended by all sub-officers, will be called as a matter of urgency by The Police Association.

The Force’s Mobility Model proposes to erode members’ basic industrial rights.

Together, we must prevent the introduction of this model before all sub-officers across all regions are subject to this unjust and draconian practice.
