Declarable Associations – don’t sign yet
The ‘Declarable Associations’ policy remains of serious concern to The Police Association. We remind members not to sign anything relating to the policy until they have received further advice from the Association. In addition to seeking legal advice about the soundness of the ‘Declarable Associations’ policy, The Police Association has also formally raised its concerns with the Ombudsman. We have sought a response from the Ombudsman by 24 October, a week before the Chief Commissioner’s deadline of 31 October. The Association is currently awaiting his advice. We urge members not to sign the Declarable Associations policy until we have received this advice. If the Ombudsman is unable to provide us with advice before 31 October, then we have requested that he ask the Chief Commissioner to extend the deadline until his inquiries are finalised. It is the Association’s view that appropriate time must be allocated to consider the impact of the policy and to ensure that the rights of members are safeguarded. The Police Association will contact members as soon as we receive further advice from the Ombudsman.
