The Magistrates Court has upheld an industrial claim by The Police Association worth close to $1 million, for the back payment of on-call and availability allowances on behalf of 63 past and present members of the Special Operations Group.
The Court's Industrial Division found that the Victorian Police Force, having refused payment to members of their rightful entitlements over the past six years, has been in breach of the police industrial agreement throughout this period.
This decision recognises the difficult, around-the-clock nature of the work performed by dedicated past and present members of the SOG and the obligation of the Force to pay members appropriately for their work.
